Buddy is designed for children ages 6-15 (elementary and middle school). The AI adapts its vocabulary, grammar complexity, and conversation topics based on the selected grade level.
Absolutely. All AI responses are filtered through our safety layer designed specifically for K-12 education. Buddy will never discuss inappropriate topics and always maintains a positive, encouraging tone.
The hardware components cost approximately ¥250 (about $35). This includes the ESP32 board, LCD screens, speaker, microphone, and 3D-printed shell. The AI service is free during our beta period.
Yes, Buddy needs a WiFi connection to access the AI language model. However, some basic functions like alarm clock and simple greetings work offline.
Buddy speaks English and understands both English and Chinese. It naturally mixes languages to help children learn — speaking English with Chinese explanations when needed.
On a full charge, Buddy runs for 3-4 hours of active conversation. In standby mode (waiting for a wake word), it can last up to 8 hours. Charging takes about 1.5 hours.
